Practice Burns - People Portraits
It's been a few years now since I have offered up commissions of people portraits.
I have done the odd one since, but always with blurred faces or side views and not a lot of features showing.
Why? Because they are a very unforgiving. You make a shadow too dark, or make a line too prominent and it can change the whole portrait! And, they are very time consuming. Skin takes low heat to get smooth burns, and therefor, more layering to get darker areas. In turn, this takes A LOT more time than any other design can take.
I didn't feel confident enough in my portraits to continue offering them - until I could practice more.
That time is now! I have spent a lot of time burning mouths and eyes, and now I am burning full portraits! I have two practice portraits on the go, using reference images from clients - below you will find the WIPs of them as I work.
Below you will find the finished images of the eyes and mouth, and progress images of the portrait piece.

Sloth on Cherry Wood
I started this sloth piece last fall in hopes of getting it done for international sloth day - but as you can see, that did not happen! I will continue to work on this piece as well as a few more I have on the go! It may be slow, but I'll get it done! haha
SPN Impala on Basswood Plank
I have wanted to burn the Impala car from SPN for a while now, as I really enjoy burning classic and vintage vehicles.
I wanted a spooky forest background, but now I am thinking of changing it to a dark foggy background. Once I have the background how I want it, I will begin burning it - and I will update the WIP images as well!
This is being burned onto a large 11" x 16" basswood plank with double live edge. This is available for purchase - contact me to inquire!
